CCR’s Performing and Reading Viable Samples

Advanced Environmental Monitoring Training for Pharmacy Professionals

Pending accreditation for 5.25 hours of Continuing Education.

Are you—or someone within your facility—responsible for interpreting viable environmental monitoring or personnel sampling, such as air and surface sampling plates, gloved fingertip sampling (GFS), surface sampling (SS), or liquid media fill units?

If so, this training is designed for you.

This program combines dynamic, expert-led lectures with practical components to build the skills required to accurately read and interpret samples. Upon successful completion of the post-test, participants can feel confident in their ability to perform as qualified individuals in viable sample evaluation.

This focused, high-impact training bridges the gap between theory and real-world application, equipping your team with the confidence to perform, interpret, and respond to viable sampling results in alignment with current standards and best practices.

Developed and delivered by industry experts, this program goes beyond the “what” to explore the “why” behind the requirements—empowering participants to make informed, defensible decisions in their practice.

What You’ll Learn

Participants will gain practical, actionable knowledge on:

  • The fundamentals of environmental monitoring programs

  • Proper techniques for collecting viable air and surface samples

  • Best practices for personnel sampling, including gloved fingertip testing and media fill considerations

  • Understanding incubation parameters and equipment

  • How to accurately read and interpret microbiological growth with a practice lab

  • Applying action levels and responding to excursions

  • Translating results into meaningful quality and safety improvements

Practical Learning Experience

This training includes guided lab components, where participants will:

  • Practice reading media samples

  • Assessing EM sampling plans

  • Interpret real-world results

  • Build confidence in identifying contamination vs. acceptable findings

This practical session reinforces learning and ensures participants leave with skills they can immediately apply.

Who Should Attend

This training is ideal for:

  • Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists

  • Sterile Compounding Supervisors

  • Quality Assurance & Compliance Professionals

  • Anyone responsible for USP <797>, NAPRA, or cleanroom compliance

Certification & Ongoing Competency

Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion valid for three (3) years.

In alignment with Canadian sterile compounding standards, personnel involved in environmental monitoring and the interpretation of viable samples must be properly trained and are expected to demonstrate ongoing competency.

This training supports that requirement by preparing participants to function as qualified individuals responsible for the reading and interpretation of viable samples, including air, surface, and personnel monitoring.

To maintain competency, participants are required to complete an annual online post-test assessment.

The first post-test is included with the initial training.
Subsequent yearly competency assessments are available for $59 CAD per person, per year to maintain active certification status.

For organizations enrolling multiple participants, please contact info@criticalcompoundingresources.com for group pricing options.
