The Faces Behind CCR

Mary and Melanie are the co-owners of Critical Compounding Resources. Their passion for pharmacy is contagious and they love teaching the "why" behind the "what". They also enjoy providing consulting services to pharmacies that need help with operational and workflow procedures, facility designs, inspections, or issues occurring in pharmacies.

Melanie's Story

IMG_20230519_232334_056_edited.jpg

Since 2006 as a pharmacy technician in Canada, I have always been interested in all things compounding. Working in a pediatric hospital has afforded me many compounding experiences from nonsterile to sterile, including non-hazardous and hazardous drugs. Though regulations ensure minimum practice standards to ensure patient safety, I think we owe our patients more than the minimum, so I’ve focused on learning, developing, and implementing best compounding practices. CCR’s best practices are tried and true and integrate efficiently into today’s workflows.

My passion for compounding was further fueled when I attended a CriticalPoint live training class and first met industry experts Kate Douglass, Eric Kastango, and Patti Kienle. I had the privilege of working with CriticalPoint, LLC and Kastango Consulting Group. During this time, I refined my skills by creating, revising, and delivering eLearning, live and virtual training, SOPs and forms, newsletters, and webinars. I was also fortunate to travel to compounding facilities to offer aseptic gap analysis evaluations, customer training, and competency evaluations.

Now I’m excited to launch Critical Compounding Resources to offer these products and services to both Canadian and American clients. When I’m not busy with compounding and my beautiful family, my lifelong passion and love for horses and teaching has led me to gain my certificate with Equine Canada as a certified horseback riding instructor. I truly enjoy teaching in all aspects of my life and love helping my clients meet their goals whether it be in a pharmacy or on a horse.

Before co-owning CCR LLC, I served as the Director of Field Operations for Kastango Consulting Group, a TRC Healthcare Company, where I oversaw the day-to-day consulting operations. Before that, I established and led sterile compounding services for Cleveland Clinic, Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. My responsibilities included developing pharmacy-related policies, procedures, and SOPs, implementing technology setups, designing training programs, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

At CCR I perform USP gap analysis, assist with developing pharmacy facility designs, including pharmacy compounding facilities, and review construction documents for clients to ensure regulatory compliance and provide best practice recommendations for compounding. I am also involved in product development for CCR and provide training and education to pharmacy personnel and other involved in compounding facilities. I am a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and I stay actively engaged in the field.
